Private vaults

Organize shielded balances by purpose, such as trading, savings or payroll.

Vaults let you keep shielded assets in separate compartments, so you can see at a glance what is for trading, what is long-term, and what is set aside for contributors.

What a vault is

A vault is a label and a set of records on your device. Each vault has its own balance and history. You can create, rename and archive vaults in the app, and move value between them.

Vault names and notes are encrypted or kept on your device. They are never published on the chain.

Moving value between vaults

Moving value from one vault to another is a real transaction inside the pool. It needs the same proof and the same authorization as a payment to someone else.

Renaming a vault or changing a label in the app is not a transaction. Nothing is sent to the chain.

What vaults do not do

A vault is an organizing tool, not extra privacy. All your vaults share the same pool and the same keys.

Vaults do not:

  • Create a separate anonymity set. Your vaults are not hidden from each other in any cryptographic sense.
  • Create a legal entity or separate ownership.
  • Hide that a pool transaction happened when you move value between them. Observers can see that the pool was used, and when.

Example

A trader keeps three vaults: Trading, Long-term and Taxes. Profits move from Trading to Long-term at the end of each month. Observers can see that pool transactions happened, but not which vaults were involved, how much moved, or that the same person made them.
